Chopper 4 gives an aerial view of some of the damage in Springfield, New Jersey, after a weak tornado briefly touched down there during Wednesday's ferocious and widespread severe weather.

More: The troubling storms that triggered a weak tornado in New Jersey Wednesday are expected to linger in the tri-state area Thursday, threatening torrential rains and damaging winds yet again though Storm Team 4 says they won't be as severe as they were a day earlier.

A few pop-up showers will start to creep in around 3 p.m. as a cold front begins to pass through, according to Storm Team 4. The weather should get more volatile around 7 p.m., especially for people in New Jersey's Warren and Sussex counties, who could see some of the stronger thunderstorms.

Though some of the cells could produce hail and damaging winds, along with torrential rain, the threat for severe weather stays further north and west of the city, Storm Team 4 says. Any storm activity should dissipate fairly quickly, moving out late Thursday and paving the way for a gorgeous end to the workweek -- and an even better weekend, Storm Team 4 says.

Expect a humid Thursday with a high around 87; the humidity breaks a bit Friday as temps fall a bit to 85 degrees with partly to mostly sunny skies.
