Senior Spotlight🎓: Berenice Hernandez Ojeda

Berenice is a double major in communication disorders and sciences and Spanish with a Certificate in Second Language Teaching Acquisition for Spanish and English. She is a first-generation student from Tigard, OR.

Berenice is a member of Gamma Alpha Omega, a multicultural sorority on campus. She also serves as a student leader at Tykeson College and Career Advising where she helps students discover the various paths towards their intended career goals.

She is also a PathwayOregon scholar and recipient of the Stamps Scholarship and Diversity Excellence Scholarship. As a research assistant at the Early Dual Language Development Lab, Berenice furthered her love for language through her interactions with the bilingual Eugene community.

Berenice’s involvement in the National Student Speech Hearing Language Association encouraged her to explore options for future career plans, and it ultimately helped her decide to pursue a career as a bilingual speech language pathologist.

"UO made my college experience special because of the wonderful opportunities it offered me," Berenice said. "Through UO, I attended the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I also had the opportunity to study abroad in fall 2021 in Oviedo, Spain. UO opened many doors to experiences I would have not have sought out otherwise".

After graduation, Berenice will be studying in the speech and hearing master’s program at Portland State University.
