Quick little rip in the canyons with the beautiful @maserati MC20 Cielo.

Quick thoughts:
This was my first canyon run with the car, so I was still feeling everything out here. With that said the car does give you quite a bit of confidence. This is true even though it was 100 degrees that day, so the tires were definitely overheating. This also made it less than ideal weather to have the top down.

Still a very capable and very fun canyon carver, and on a subsequent cooler day it really came to life! Carbon Fiber monocoque means the chassis is a 10/10, and the adjustable suspension works well, though I do wish there was an individual mode so I could run in Corsa with the slightly less stiff Sport mode suspension for some of the bumpier sections of Angeles Crest. For a car I assume shares a bit of Ferrari engineering the steering is actually quite a bit more connected and has nice weight compared to most modern F cars. Brakes, however are very Ferrari, not much bite at the top and you do need to stand on them to get the full force of the massive Carbon Ceramic stoppers.

I’m guessing the 300 treadwear Bridgestone sport tires are on there so that the car can be a true GT and face most weather without batting an eye, perhaps further aided by the MC20’s handy “Wet” mode. But this comes at the cost of outright grip, feeling somewhat front limited. Though, the car is a bit more playful with this setup, and you can feel the e-diff working its magic.

If you threw some sticky tires and a “canyon” alignment on the car, perhaps if you did live in SoCal, this would be an absolute weapon up here. I wonder if Goodyear makes 3Rs in the appropriate sizes?

In a subsequent drive on a cooler day, I had the top down and noticed no tangible difference in dynamics, though the cabin does let in a fair amount of wind, which might make it a bit too noisy to film. This can be fixed somewhat by bringing your windows up a little.

At any rate, the Cielo is absolutely the correct version of this car to get, as there isn’t much of a “convertible tax” outside of the actual cost.
