Watch friends:
Here are some sweet pics of my gorgeous Grand Seiko SLGA007 “Lake Suwa” that ekaterinagorbacheva.art shot.

Now that I have had this watch for a little bit and worn it a ton, I have some thoughts:

First off: Goddamn I love this watch. What an absolute heavy hitter. Yes it’s more expensive than the previous spring drive model, but it has a 5 day reserve, a thinner case and they moved the ugly power reserve meter to the back to allow the frankly gorgeous dial to shine. I even made it through the positives without the mandatory mention of the “Zaratsu Polishing”.

These are limited (as it seems every other GS is these days haha) but in the case of this watch it has helped with residual value to where these are worth more than they sold for. I don’t buy watches as investments, but it’s always nice when they are. Not bad for a Japanese watch either.

But most importantly, it’s just great at being a good, practical daily wear. It’s handsome but not overly eye catching, it’s incredibly comfortable, and thanks to the innovative spring drive, so much more accurate than a regular mechanical movement. So long as you wear it once every 5 days, you won’t need to wind it, and you won’t need to reset it for about a year.

Downsides? I suppose it’s not cheap, even as a relative investment, it’s not exactly entry level. I suspect they are aiming at the large gap left by Rolex with the craziness happening there. Also there’s no lume, maybe that’s a dealbreaker for some? Genuinely struggling to think of anything else…

I love the GS philosophy and I wondered if this was indeed the Perfect Grand Seiko. Now I can answer: Yes. Yes it is.

What do you timepiece fans think? Does this watch hit or miss the mark? What would you have instead?
