Where to begin? Let me introduce you to this insanely talented and inspirational soul, Mr. Duvone Stewart duvone76. From meeting him back in 2009 (when I first started playing Pan) I have been in awe of his ability to not only tell stories through his music but his humble demeanour. I told him two years ago in New York (when I went to play for their Labour day Panorama) that I will travel anywhere to play his music and I meant it!
.
This year, I was blessed to have gotten the opportunity to come to Trinidad and play with bp_renegades for my first ever #TrinidadPanorama and first time touching Pan in the motherland of this instrument I so dearly LOVE.
.
When I found out he was arranging #YearForLove by voicetheartiste I knew that it was no coincidence and this year was meant to be my first of many more to come. I arrived and was welcomed warmly by every member I met, which alone set the standard very high for me. I finished learning music the night before semi-finals and knew I wasn’t ready to play on stage, but I was just happy to be a part of it all (and I knew I’d be ready for finals).
.
I walked the drag that night to cheer on my new Steel Pan Family, showed up to practice every night after to get the music out my head and into my body, and come the night before finals... I got a uniform! I made the cut! I earned my spot! This entire experience has been one that I can now check off my bucket list and look forward to enjoying again and again in future.
.
To the BPTT Renegades: THANK YOU for being not only incredibly welcoming and kind people, but upholding the standard and discipline required to be CHAMPS (in both adult and youth bands)
.
To Duvone: THANK YOU for continuing to share your gift and spirit with the world. It is an HONOUR absorbing your arrangements and I literally can not wait until the next one 😅😬 (up next London? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔)
.
To Everyone else who played a part: THANK YOU for your encouragement and support, the kind messages, for believing in my abilities more than I believed in myself at times, for understanding when I would rather play Pan than wine in somebody Fete. 😅😬😂🤷🏻‍♀️
