How much does it actually cost to keep a horse every month? 👀🐴

Here’s my realistic monthly upkeep for one horse:

Board: $800
Shoes: $225
Supplements: $60
Feed: comped
Insurance: $231/month

Total: about $1,316/month before vet bills, lessons, shows, emergencies, tack, bodywork, treats, and the emotional damage of owning a horse who looks at you like you’re the expensive one. 🤠

Horse ownership is such a dream… but it is definitely not a cheap dream. If you’re budgeting for your first horse, an OTTB, or moving from leasing to owning, this is your sign to write out the real monthly numbers before you fall in love with a cute face in a stall.
