If you want a healthy tail? Here are my rules, but let me know if you have any other tips!

1️⃣ Keep a clean but not over “shampoo’ed” tail. I’m going to shampoo any dirt, sweat, muck, even detangler build up from my horse’s tail. But, I’m not going to shampoo a generally clean tail and pull out any oils in the hair follicle that leave the tail brittle or dry. Any shampoo is going to pull oil out; that’s the cleansing agent working. But, I’m only using when needed.
2️⃣ I always detangle from the bottom of the tail and work my way up to avoid breaking the hair! 
3️⃣ I use a coat detangler and conditioner when I brush Swatch’s tail. I love this one by @farnamhorse when allows my brush to move through without breakage
