Do you know how to rate your speed on cross country?
.
For most of my riding career I’ve guessed the speed needed on cross-country through trial and error. Then I look at my watch about 2 fences from home.
.
But did you know the omnibus tells you how many meters per minute you should be going at each level?
.
But how can you gain the feel of MPM?
.
I have a fence line I pass on my conditioning sets that I tied two flags to. You could also pull out your duct tape 😂 Using my iPhone I walked the distance of the fence line then backed into the math of how many seconds it should take to gallop that length.
.
Then I practiced! With my eventing watch I watched my seconds go by as I galloped. As I practiced I tried to maintain the right speed then feel like I needed to speed up the last section.
.
It really helped gain a feel of the pace I needed at each level.
