💫 Perseverance Musings.
.
I bought a whole album of show photos so I might as well post them 😉
.
I feel like I’ve been eventing a long time, at least long enough to see several popular young super stars come in and out of the sport.
.
At 17, I remember the handful of my peers who seemed to have all the things I wanted, I can name them. The nicest horses, all the lessons they wanted, showing all the time.
.
They eventually drifted out, then at 25 there was a new group of enviable riders.
.
They eventually drifted out to.
.
I think there’s a lot of burnout, horse break (your heart), you fall off twice in a row, sometimes you get eliminated at Novice even after you rode at Intermediate on your last horse.
.
Maybe I didn’t quit because I was never so fantastic, that the bad things were only a tiny notch lower than where I was so it didn’t feel like such a huge devastation, or maybe some childhood trauma that kept me pursuing the sport.
.
But I do think that a mindset of finding joy in the process, removing comparison, you know focusing less on whether the screw ups reflect your value, and more on taking it all in as part of the life we choose when partnering with our lucky ponies. You stick it out.
.
Trust me, I’m a math girly. The 10 young people you follow on IG who “have it all” maybe 2 of them will still be out kicking in 5 years. So that comparison is futile. So…. In my wise 30 years 😉 keep at it, it’s going to be ok.
