(You better bet we got marked down for it too… ) Publishing the second half of our dressage ❤️Aside from knowing geometry of your dressage test as free credit, another important aspect that’s completely free to add to your toolbox is “looking pleasant.”
.
One of the oldest lessons I remember when I was a working student is to always enter the dressage ring with a pleasant smile on your face, relaxed, cucumber cool. Chaos may be going on beneath you, but you are going to present a picture that it is all going as planned.
.
I’ve always thought this was primarily to fool the judge, which I believe has some merit. But, I’ve been reading Blink by Malcolm Gladwell and there is some hard truths on how our sub-conscious reacts to external elements. My smile and pleasantness, subconsciously relaxes the muscles in my neck and shoulder which gives a softer hand to my horse, I’m breathing deeper oxygen through my nose, my subconscious is doing all these beneficial things on it’s own while I’m just telling myself let’s put on a pleasant face. (I’m not done with the book, but it’s been a huge takeaway about how our subconscious is very smart and quick, and reacts instantaneously with the elements around us before our actual conscious mind can catch up)
.
Anyways, smile.
