Swatch is back in his paddock and I am crashed on my couch. I wish I had some videos from Day 2 and Day 3 as the connection and quality got better. BUT, I’ll leave the sound on so you can catch some of the work we went through.
.
We started out the first half doing lots of stretching down, having him open up his throat latch, before raising him back up to competition frame. After he was consistent, we started our work seen above.
.
I can get in a habit of riding him too round and hollow, so we worked through my half-halt and having him correctly connected in the contact. The half-halt has him wait, then I have something to push into the bit. I struggle a bit with this, getting tight in my arms when he’s connected. So my homework is to work more on this consistency along with my own posture.
.
Day 2 and Day 3 I added in lots more counter-canter 🥵 This is the one movement which will really hold your position and (rider alignment) accountable. But, I need the accountability. Riding him so much straighter and up in his poll, the quality just got 10x better.
.
I was really pleased with him. Swatch is such a cool horse, and despite being a big dude just the small adjustments I corrected in my position made a big impact.
