Sunspots and solar flares 🔥

On the surface of the sun there are areas where magnetic fields are particularly strong, which keeps the heat from reaching the surface, resulting in ‘cool’ patches called sunspots. These magnetic fields often tangle and cross, releasing a sudden explosion of energy, which we call a solar flare!
