We couldn't let this #TBT go by without posting this #WIU - chicagocubsnation connection... the Reuschel brothers! Both Rick and Paul attended and played baseball at WIU in the late 1960s and early 1970s and were inducted into Western Illinois Athletics' Hall of Fame (Rick in 1982 and Paul in 1983) for baseball. (Note: Paul is actually on the right and Rick is on the left.) As a Western Illinois Baseball pitcher in 1969, Rick went 10-0 with an earned-run average of 1.29. Following his junior year, he signed with the Chicago Cubs. He was considered one of the premier pitchers in the Major Leagues with the Cubs and, later, with the San Francisco Giants. And Paul, also a #Leatherneck pitcher, was an NCAA College Division All-American, and he still holds a #W1U baseball record for strikeouts. He went on to pitch professionally for the Chicago Cubs. The pair had the first major-league shutout ever pitched by two brothers when they played for the Cubs. They did it against the Dodgers in 1975 at Wrigley. #WIUPride #TRADITIONofTOUGH
