Bloomin’ Onion- Australia’s national dish Wet mix: - 1 cup whole milk - 2 tsp smoked paprika - 1 tsp garlic powder - 1 tsp white pepper - 1 tsp salt Wet mix: (the exact same, but swap milk for flour) - 1 cup plain flour - 2 tsp smoked paprika - 1 tsp garlic powder - 1 tsp white pepper - 1 tsp salt You also need 1 large onion, you can use brown, white or even red 1. Prepare the wet mix and the dry mix in separate bowls by mixing all of the ingredients together 2. Slice the top and bottom (root) of the onion off, making sure to leave enough of the root on to hold it all together 3. Place the flat side of the onion down, root up, and make slices top to bottom, all the way around the onion. Don’t cut past the central column of the onion to make sure pieces on the other side aren’t sliced off 4. Dunk the sliced onion into the wet mix, making sure all areas are coated well. Let excess drip off before coating well with the dry mix. Really get it in between the layers 5. Heat up neutral oil to 160°C and fry the onion for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy 6. Drain excess oil well before serving with spicy mayo #bloominonion #australianfood #outbacksteakhouse #aussieclassics
