You need to read this incredible story. ➡️ After a puppy playdate led to two dogs crashing into the back of her leg, Robin required surgery to repair a fractured tibia. Her first physical therapy appointment is when things took a drastic turn.

“I asked the receptionist if I could sit down and told her I wasn’t feeling well. I told her I was lightheaded, dizzy and couldn’t really see,” Robin recalled. “By the time my husband got there, I was convulsing and seizing. He asked them to call 911, and they put me in the transport headed for Mount Carmel East.”

Between the ride to the hospital and being sent for an MRI exam, she went into cardiac arrest THREE times. Robin was taken into surgery where multiple clots were found in her chest, and more alarmingly, a saddle pulmonary embolism — a rare embolism that blocks the main pulmonary artery where it branches off into each lung. What happened next?

➡️ 48 hours of multiple surgeries
➡️ 11 days in a medically induced coma
➡️ 10 days in the ICU
➡️ 4 months of recovery and therapy

Throughout all of this, it was 114 units of donated blood that kept her alive. 🩸 After she was able to return to work, a friend and principal at a nearby school hosted a blood drive in her honor, and Robin went and gave blood for the very first time.

“It was a full circle moment, you know. People that I don’t know donated the blood that kept me alive, it was nice getting to give back along with a lot of first-time donors at that drive.”

Robin knows a lot went into keeping her here, and we’re grateful to her for sharing her story and emphasizing the importance of lifesaving blood donations for patients who need them the most. ❤️
