What do you guys want for dinner next week!? Lemme know below and I might just make it for ya!!! Mongolian beef Ingredients: Neutral flavoured oil 1 brown onion, sliced 3 spring onions, whites & greens separated 1 red chilli, deseeded & sliced lengthways 3 large garlic cloves, finely chopped Beef: 500g beef (I used scotch fillet) 1 egg white 1 tbsp corn flour 1 tsp baking soda Salt and pepper Sauce: 1 tbsp soy 1/3 cup oyster 1 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp Chinese cooking wine Salt and pepper Method: 1. Salt your steak and pop it into the freezer while you prep your ingredients and sauce. 2. In a bowl or jug, combine the ingredients for the sauce. 3. After your steak has been in the freezer for approx 20 mins. Take it out and slice it thinly on a diagonal against the grain. Having the steak super super cold will make this process a lot easier. 4. Add the thinly sliced beef to a bowl with the egg white, corn flour, baking soda, salt and pepper. This process is called velveting. Velveting is what they do at almost every takeout store to tenderise the protein. Make sure you let the beef sit in this mixture for an additional 20 minutes for optimal results. 5. In a wok on high heat with oil, sear the beef for 1-2 minutes or until brown. 6. Discard majority of the oil and lower the heat to medium before adding the onion, chilli and the whites or the spring onions and sauteing for a couple of minutes. 7. Add the garlic and saute for an additional 30 seconds or until fragrant. 8. Add the sauce and stir to combine. 9. Add the beef back in followed by the greens of the spring onions. 10. Saute together for 1-2 minutes before serving and that is literally it! #mongolianbeef #betterthantakeout #cheapeats #budgetmeals #DinnerIdeas
