20 minute recipes under $20 Ep 3. Sticky sesame chicken Ingredients for 4: 500g chicken thigh, diced 1/4 cup neutral oil 1 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds 1 1/2 cup rice Marinade: 2 tbsp soy sauce 1/2 tsp black pepper 3 tbsp corn flour 1 tsp baking soda (optional but recommended) Sauce: 3 tbsp soy sauce 3 tbsp tomato sauce 2 gloves garlic, finely diced 1 tsp ginger, grated 2 tbsp sugar (I forgot to pick up sugar so I used honey instead. Whatever sweetener you have will work just fine) Method: 1. Wash and cook your rice. Bring the rice up to a boil before lowering the heat completely and letting it sit for 20 minutes (with the lid on, do not lift it). 2. Marinade the diced chicken thigh with soy sauce, pepper, corn flour and baking soda (baking soda optional but recommended). 3. In a pan on medium to high heat with neutral oil, shallow fry the chicken for 4-5 minutes or until golden. 4. Remove from the pan and lower the heat. Add the sauce ingredients, soy, tomato, garlic, ginger and sugar and bring to a low simmer. 5. If the sauce is too runny, add 1 tsp of cornflour and wait for it to thicken before adding the chicken back into the pan followed by the sesame seeds and tossing until evenly coated. 6. By now the rice should be cooked to perfection. 7. Serve with additional sesame seeds on top and enjoy! Price breakdown: Chicken: $7.02 Sesame seeds: $1.10 Corn flour: $2.25 Soy: $1.90 Tom sauce: $2 Sugar: $1.70 Garlic: $1.17 Ginger: $1.43 Rice: $1.40 =$19.97 (this one was a tighttttt squeeze but I made it WORK) #sesamechicken #20minutemeals #quickrecipes #EasyRecipe #DinnerIdeas #quickmeals #cheapeats #cheapmeals #cookingonabudget #budgetmeals
