## Caption

In a typical year, the U.S. produces 375–420 million tons of asphalt. But do we actually need all that? Neckdowns are a traffic-calming tool that slow cars, make intersections safer, and create more delightful space for people outside of cars. And every fall or snowfall, nature shows us where they belong. Leaves and snow reveal all the unused or under-used asphalt on our streets — sometimes called leafdowns and snowdowns. It’s visual, qualitative data… and a reminder that our streets can be redesigned for people, not just cars. #urbanism #tacticalurbanism #strongtowns #walkability #saferstreets
