## Caption

Edge conditions mark where neighborhoods begin and end. One of the best examples is the neighborhood commercial corridor—those small stretches of shops that formed before the car, when it made sense to live near the places you visited daily. These edges do more than provide convenience; their continuous buildings create a quiet, defined interior for the neighborhood while keeping daily life active along the edge. #urbanism #urbandesign #portlandoregon #cityplanning
