## Caption

How can we empower people to shape and develop place on the smallest possible scale? Enter: Sidewalk Joy (coined by @PDX Dinorama & Pdxflag (insta) for the Portland scene and now taken worldwide by @pdxdinorama) On our IncDev field trip to Portland, we noticed more instances of this than anywhere else we’ve visited—trinket sharing, hundreds of basketball hoops facing the street, tree swings built into the city’s right-of-way. These bat signals of hope teach us that simple gestures create informal interactions. And informal interactions build acquaintances. Acquaintances build friendships. Sidewalk joy reminds us that shaping neighborhoods starts with the smallest gestures, and all of us can participate. #SidewalkJoy #PortlandOR #IncrementalDevelopment #PedestrianFriendly #Neighbors
