The two most common questions I get asked by people who want to become full-time creatives in their industry or skill set or passion are: How much do I charge clients?  How do I take the leap to do this full-time?  It is risky, but life is risky and you’re not coming out of it alive in the end anyway so you may as well give it a go.  One thing you must remember is whatever it is you want to do as a full-time creative business, you must be already interested, obsessed or addicted to it regardless of if you are getting paid or not.  Then and only then can you explore the monetisation part.  Figure out what your monthly expenses are and double it then add 30% tax. This is how much you will need to make per month from your new creative venture.  Now that you have the pricing sorted when do you take the leap into this full-time?  First, start by seeing if you can actually achieve that amount on weekends if you are working in your current job during the weekdays.  It may not happen instantly, but if you’re passionate and enjoy what you do, your skills will build up sooner or later for other people to want to pay you for doing it for them. Once you’ve achieved one month of target, congratulations that is the amount you now have to put away into your emergency bucket. You now have five more months of this to go before you are ready to take the leap and quit your job. that is especially for people who have a responsibility of keeping a roof over their families heads or people who have anxiety from thinking what if things stop working all of a sudden? You will have six months to figure out how to make it work again. Which you will. Once you have that buffer and your continuing to build that business, you can take the leap then.  The game is about patience, consistency, grit and determination to succeed so you can live a better life working for yourself and getting paid doing what you love. It can happen sooner, but if you plan correctly and take it step-by-step, if this is really what you want to do, it will happen eventually no matter what.
