Imagine a world without Twitter but just as tweet-worthy - let’s discuss the rise of Gossip Pamphlets . #KinkyHistory The ripple effect of these pamphlets reached far and wide. A mere whisper could turn into a thunderous storm of social ostracism or an unexpected rise to fame. These were not just papers; they were passports to power. The Female Tatler (1709-1710) was the historical Lady Whistledown. Started by Delarivier Manley under the pseudonym "Mrs. Crackenthorpe," The Female Tatler was a spin-off of the more famous The Tatler, founded by Richard Steele. This pamphlet was one of the first to be directed primarily at women, offering society gossip alongside commentary on women's roles and behavior. Manley's sharp wit and willingness to expose the secrets of high society, including thinly veiled references to real people, made it hugely popular and equally controversial. #bridgerton #bridgertonS3 #bridgertoninbowral #History #regency
