@jblair0 Dominates To Lead The Hoyas To A Comeback Victory Against DePaul
—
After a tough loss against No. 12 Seton Hall during the Hoyas last home matchup, the Georgetown men’s basketball team pulled through with a win against DePaul on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena.
Starting off with an eleven-point deficit in the first half, the Hoyas (14-10, 4-7 Big East) managed to reduce the gap to only six points going into the half. With significant improvement in 3-pt and overall field goal percentage in the second half, 44.44% and 54.7% respectively, and lead scorers like junior guard Jahvon Blair, the team went on a 13-2 run to tie and take their first lead of the game with under five minutes remaining. As the game progressed, the Hoyas managed to increase their lead with buckets from Blair and free throws from freshman center Qudus Wahab and senior forward George Muresan, securing the win with a final score of 76-72.

Blair ended Saturday’s game with a career high 30 points, consisting of four 3-pointers. As a Hoya, Blair has accumulated one hundred twenty four 3-pointers in his career ranking him 16th on Georgetown’s career list, surpassing Brandon Bowman and Allen Iverson.

Head coach Patrick Ewing attributes the win not only to Blair’s tenacity and efficiency at the rim, but to the overall team effort, “Jahvon - he had 30 points, and we needed all 30 of them, but it wasn’t just his points. Guys stepped up, guys did everything that we needed them to do.” With lead scorer sophomore guard Mac McClung still recovering from a foot injury, this was a much needed win for the Blue & Gray. In the second half of play, senior center Omer Yurtseven was unable to return to the game after suffering from a “bad sprain” according to Ewing. In the postgame press conference, Ewing spoke on the status of Yurtseven’s injury, “I’m not sure how long he’s going to be out, but we think we will have him back by Saturday.” The Hoyas will hit the road for another conference matchup against No. 19/19 Butler (18-5, 6-4 Big East) in Indianapolis on Saturday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. ET, with the game broadcast on FOX and live stats available at guhoyas.com.
