So I spent part of Holy Week at the ER. Very festive, ano.? Very on-brand for me apparently. Hehehe. 😅 Last Good Friday, I finally decided to have my left wrist properly checked at Cardinal Santos Medical Center after about a week of this nagging stinging discomfort sa bandang inner pinky side of my wrist. The most painful part? Literally just turning my wrist to check the time. As in I couldn’t even properly LOOK at my watch without wincing in pain. Sounds melodramatic ano? Well, maybe. Pero it's also very real. Diagnosis: TFCC Injury. ("Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex," para sa mga mahilig sa impressive-sounding things. Hehehe.) Basically, ganito po yun: There’s a small disc of cartilage and ligaments sa pinky side of our wrist that acts as a cushion and stabilizer. Yung akin, na-overstress… maybe from repetitive forearm rotation and load-bearing workout movements. Heavy rows, curls, the works. The “cool guy” exercises. Mukhang hindi na-impress ang TFCC ko. 😁 Good news: X-ray was completely clean. No fracture, no dislocation. Bad news: splinted, rested, no lifting, no strenuous activity on the left arm. Argh! In my defense, I’ve been working out consistently every other day for months and I genuinely thought I was built different. I guess, I was not. Fifty-one years old, feeling 35… my wrist said “Tara, mag-usap nga muna tayo.” 😂 Okay but PSA time muna tayo because I want you guys to avoid this: listen to your body. And I mean really listen, because it’s not always obvious. In my case, I didn’t actually feel pain during my workouts. It just… showed up one day. TFCC injuries can creep up silently from cumulative wrist stress, lalo na from repetitive forearm rotation and load-bearing movements. So kung may bigla kang maramdaman na kakaiba sa wrist area, if something starts feeling off, even something small, don’t ignore it. Rest it, ice it, and have it checked early. Walang machismo dito. Currently in a splint, staring at my dumbbells from across the room like a sale that ends today pero wala akong budget. 🩹💪🏼 Thank you to the team at Cardinal Santos Medical Center ER for taking great care of me! And to @Yen Dreyfus who accompanied me, held my hand, and did not once say “sabi ko na sayo”… but DID keep reminding me, “Kasi naman, 51 ka na, ano!” the entire time. Fair. Very fair. Hahaha! See you all on the other side of recovery. 🙏🏼 #tfccinjury #TFCC #wristinjury #healthupdate
