Grab some apple cider, light a pumpkin spice candle and check out this spooky story of a historic encounter from Jillian J., `19 that sets the tone for a perfect Buckeye Halloween! 🎃 👻

“This isn't my personal experience, but my husband's that occurred in 2017. One evening, I realized I left behind a painting for an art show in Hayes Hall. Seeing as I left campus and I was afraid it would be thrown out, I asked my husband (boyfriend at the time) to try to retrieve the painting for me. I had little hope he would get into the building because it was quite late.

When he tried to get into Hayes it was locked, but a bearded man dressed in maintenance clothes opened the door for him. My husband thanked him and the bearded man nodded and walked into a dark classroom. When the man entered the classroom his footsteps stopped and he didn't turn on the lights. Finding that strange, my husband walked over to the classroom and found that the bearded man was not inside. Perplexed and a little freaked out, he ran up the stairs, retrieved my painting and left.

After some research, my husband found a story about Hayes Hall that seemed to explain what happened. Rutherford B. Hayes' ghost has been known to open up the doors late at night for those who need to get in. When my husband pulled up a picture of Hayes, it turned out to be the bearded man who let him into the hall.”
