This road could help defend Europe. A brand new motorway that connects the three Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - to Poland - passes through a key strategic area. The Via Baltica road crosses the Suwalki Gap, often described as Nato’s achilles heel because it is a tiny strip of land between Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave and the pro-Moscow country of Belarus.
