The UK’s dog population is much bigger than previously thought! New research estimates there are now around 13 million dogs across the country, around four million more than earlier estimates 🐶📊 A major study published in Scientific Reports by Dogs Trust, alongside the Universities of Leeds and Exeter, found that around 31% of UK households own at least one dog, helping calculate the nation’s canine population at roughly 13 million. The findings come as several landmark UK studies, including research from the Royal Veterinary College’s VetCompass programme and Dogs Trust, continue to track everything from dog demographics and obesity to behaviour, causes of death and even AI-powered health data to better understand the nation’s four-legged companions.
