You already know you can make a banging crumble with leftover apples... But @whatinthechef’s spiced crumble with ❗️GINGER CUSTARD❗️will be your new favourite crumble recipe. Serves 4-6 Total time: 1 hour For the apples: 700g granny smith apples, diced 150g white sugar 1 tbsp cornflour 0.5 tbsp chai masala mix Squeeze of lemon For the crumble: 2 cups rolled oats 1 cup plain flour 150g brown sugar 150g unsalted butter, melted For the custard: 1 tsp ghee Slice of fresh ginger 500g custard Method 1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 4 or 180 degrees C. In a saucepan, add the diced apples, white sugar, cornflour, chai masala mix, and lemon juice. Stir together and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes to caramelise the apples and infuse the flavour 2. In a separate bowl, add the oats then sieve in the flour. Add the brown sugar and mix through, breaking up any lumpy bits. Then add the melted butter and mix once more 3. Once loosely mixed, go in with your hands and continue to mix so everything is well incorporated. You should be left with some clusters in the mix which is ideal. You should have a crumbly texture 4. Add the apple mixture to a baking tray, then sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples and ensure everything is covered. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbling. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes 5. In the meantime, heat 1 tsp of ghee in a pan. Add a few slices of fresh ginger and cook for 20-30 seconds. Add 500g of store-bought custard and stir. Bring up to heat and simmer for a few minutes until smooth, silky, and infused with the ginger flavour. Serve the crumble with a topping of custard #applecrumble #winterdessert #christmasdessert #festiverecipe #spicy
