## Caption

“I thought: where is God?” Dave Evans watched confusion turn rapidly to horror in Aberfan on the morning of 21 October 1966. A collapsing coal waste tip engulfed Pantglas Junior School and nearby homes, and his was one of the few houses in the village with a private telephone. Evans’ early phone call to the fire service set in motion an emergency response that would bring firefighters, police officers, ambulance crews and rescue workers rushing towards the village. #BBCNews #Aberfan #Wales
