Amazon’s Lord of the Rings MMO has reportedly been cancelled again, ending the company’s latest attempt to build a massive online Middle-earth adventure. First announced in 2019, scrapped in 2021, and revived in 2023, the project appears to have quietly died following major layoffs across Amazon’s gaming division. Amazon Games Orange County, the studio behind New World, had been leading development before internal cuts reportedly halted progress. Jeff Grattis, Amazon’s head of games, has now confirmed the MMO is no longer the focus. Despite the cancellation, Amazon says it still plans to develop a new Lord of the Rings game, with teams exploring a different Tolkien-based experience. #gaming #news #film #middleearth
