Chris Stockman, the design director of the original Saints Row, has revealed he’s been asked to pitch a potential prequel to the franchise’s owner, Embracer Group.  Stockman, who now works at Bit Planet Games, said he wants to bring the series “back to its roots” after feeling it drifted too far from the tone of the 2006 original.  He confirmed the project wouldn’t be a VR game despite his current studio’s focus on virtual reality.  Stockman’s concept reportedly centers on a 1970s-set prequel exploring how the gangs from the first Saints Row came to be.  He believes this direction would distinguish the series from modern GTA titles while recapturing the spirit fans loved.
