Dr. Karen Boren, a Professor in the RIC English Department has a challenge for all of us!
“Keep the Windows Wide”: Write the Pandemic
🖋📝📚
Here is Dr. Boren’s challenge, in her own words...
“All across the world people are leaning out, hidden behind, looking through their windows. Behind each pane is a story. Let’s write the pandemic.
.
Here is the writing challenge:
.
In 300 words or fewer, write a complete story using the following as either the FIRST or LAST line: I blame the quarantine.
.
Paste your story in the body of an email, and send to iblamethequarantine@gmail.com. Put WINDOW in the subject line. Please include your name and enough contact information that I can contact you when I find a publisher for this anthology and/or some other outlet for the compelling stories I know you will write.
.
I want to open as many windows as possible, so please write as many times as you like; share the prompt with other writers and non-writers too – of any age, nationality, profession or persuasion. Parents, challenge your children to write their stories. Include drawings if you like. Record songs if you want. And be sure to send them to iblamethequarantine@gmail.com.
.
Publishers/editors interested in this project, also contact me.
.
There are so many windows closed right now. Let’s open them wide on the page.”
.
