Thalia Guardarrama (pictured left) attended MassArt before transferring to RIC in 2019, where she is majoring in English/fiction writing. Arriving here was an adjustment, but she quickly found her people in ric_otaku and gameratricollege. “That was really cool for me because I was really struggling emotionally and academically from transferring schools,” she says. “It helped me connect with people.” Casey Williams, president of G.A.M.E.R. (pictured right), finds similar connections through gaming. “If you’re a fan of gaming of any kind and just want more interaction or even if you’re having a rough day and just want to come talk to people, you’ll find someone at the G.A.M.E.R. office with the same interests,” he says. Both Thalia and Casey share a love of the game Kingdom Hearts. Thalia points out that the most famous quote in the game is when the character Sora (swipe to the end ⬅️ for Thalia’s drawing of Sora) says, “My friends are my power.” “That’s the quote I used in my high school yearbook,” Thalia adds.
