We’re so proud of the seven RIC students who are among the 49 college students statewide selected for this year’s College leadershipri class! They are (L-R, top to bottom):
•Micaela Furtado, junior, metalsmithing & jewelry
•Octavian Goncalves, senior, finance
•Kennedy Ryan, senior, communications
•Shreena Patel, freshman, biology
•Angela Pierre-Louis, sophomore, biochemistry
•Christian Ortiz-Blanco, junior, computer science
•Jacklyn Xavier, senior, marketing
•••••
From September-May these students will develop leadership skills and explore careers in the nonprofit, private, public and philanthropic sectors. Learning how to develop professional networks, they will ultimately join 2,500+ LRI alumni, whose ranks include leaders in all industries throughout the state, including former Postsecondary Education Commissioner Brenda Dann-Messier, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung and Crossroads RI Executive Director Karen Santilli (all of whom also happen to be #RICalumni). “Through this program I’ll be able to build on my strengths,” says Micaela. “I really want to leave a mark.”
•••••
Did we mention that this program is tuition free? Participants are selected on the basis of their passion for the people and future of RI, their past and present activities that exhibit this commitment, their leadership on campus, and their desire to extend their leadership influence and professional network. Applications for the 2020-21 class will begin in the spring.
