RIC student jean_muhi shared his experience as a #refugee with jbirdjf for her blog #YouthandOpportunity: “I am a refugee originally from Rwanda, and I was born in the refugee camp called Camp Kintele in the Republic of Congo... When I turned 9 years old, I stopped going to school because we needed money... I started to work 17 hours a day... Through all the struggle I never stopped believing in education. I wanted to study hard because I believed I could make a difference...” • Night Jean Muhingabo is now doing just that. His service to and advocacy for refugees in #rhodeisland earned him recognition from the #rhodeislandcollege Emerging #Leadership program, the Exemplary Youth Services Recognition from Lt. Governor McKee & congressional recognition from Congressman Cicilline, among other honors. He currently serves as the Youth Representative on the board of the refugeedreamcenter. And he remains a firm believer in #opportunity. • “Opportunity for me means hope. Opportunity for me also means freedom and choice. That no matter where I am from, I believe that anything is possible... living here in the United States is a dream come true.” #humansofRIC
