“I think the human body is really leaky and messy,” says #painting major jennadeangelis_ “We’re embarrassed by our natural bodily functions and behaviors. Because we feel vulnerable, we cover them up. I want to expose them.” • DeAngelis is using the DeStefano Undergraduate Research Scholarship as an opportunity to explore different #materials in her art - things she’s never worked with before like #latex, #rope, #gampi & #kitakata #paper. She’s using them to create #sculptural pieces that “behave like the human body when they’re hung, stained, attached and layered.” • So far DeAngelis has created four pieces and will soon begin work on a #researchpaper that will examine #arthistory movements focused on #process, such as #abstractexpressionism & #postminimalism. “An exciting outcome of my research is that I’m a painter who has become more sculptural. I now see paint as a visceral pile of color.” • ⬅️to see more.
