“RIC is a school that works at giving support to those who are not as fortunate as I was,” says #ricalumni Fred Harrison ‘07.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Fred was already in his 50s and retired from a career in chemical engineering and manufacturing when he decided to pursue his passion for #teaching. He discovered RIC’s teacher certification programs and embarked on an unexpected path of pursuing a second bachelor’s degree. It was not an easy transition back into life as a #collegestudent, but math #professor Helen Salzberg became instrumental to his success. So profound was her impact on Fred that he decided to fund a #scholarship in her name to support #math or #matheducation #students in need.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Now he’s doubling down on that support, creating the RIC #Giving Challenge for #GivingTuesday. From now until Dec. 6, Fred will match all #donations to the RIC Annual Fund up to $20k. 100% of the donations and #matchingfunds will benefit #rhodeislandcollege students and their #education. (Link in bio.)

We are so grateful for dedicated and generous #alumni like Fred, and we hope he inspires others to join him in making a difference for our students. “If you feel as strongly as I do about the education you got from RIC and the support from the faculty when you needed it most, supporting incoming students is easy,” he says. “Our support makes it happen.” 🙌
