At 27, he was a musical icon whose voice shaped a generation. Yet the final tragic chapter of Kurt Cobain's life was recorded not in song, but in a chilling coroner's report. The Nirvana frontman died on April 8, 1994 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head, according to the King County Medical Examiner. The coroner withheld the autopsy from the public then, but now, a group of independent forensic researchers has shared a full copy with the Daily Mail which they say brings into question this long-standing cause of death ruling. The unofficial private sector team of forensic scientists examined the autopsy along with crime scene records, and concluded that aspects of the case point to a homicide rather than a suicide. Cobain was found in the atrium of his Seattle home, with a handwritten note nearby and a shotgun in his left hand, according to official reports. After analyzing the autopsy and crime scene pictures, the private team said Cobain's left dorsal hand should have shown bloodstaining if he had been gripping the shotgun barrel when it was fired, which would have sent blood spattering. While blood was found inside the gun's compensator grooves, they claim no such staining was documented on his hand. The autopsy also detected multiple substances in Cobain's system, including morphine, codeine, diazepam and heroin. In the official scenario outlined to the public by Seattle police, Cobain is believed to have injected heroin himself, then put away the drug paraphernalia, walked across the room and shot himself. The authors of the new report proposed an alternative explanation, suggesting the drugs could have been administered by another person to incapacitate him - though no such conclusion has been adopted by authorities. 📷 Michelle Wilkins / Getty Images / MTV #nirvana #kurtcobain #music #crime #news
