Let it rip.

Our team recently visited Leadville, Colorado for some high altitude testing on our newest platform integration with the FreeFly Astro Max (@freeflysystems). Besides being the highest incorporated city in the United States, Leadville holds an interesting place in American mining history after helping put Colorado on the map with a massive silver and gold boom in the 1860s - 1890s. That came to an abrupt halt in 1893 with the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, causing mines to close and the economy to suffer greatly. But visitors to Leadville can still find pieces of that mining history in the @taboroperahouse, the @mining_hall_of_fame and through a variety of old structures in the surrounding landscape. (Plus some sick threads at @melanzana_leadville) During our trip, the team trekked out to a few of these sites to capture 3D models with Nexys via handheld, vehicle scans, and a drone flight – spotlighting the history of American mining with the most cutting edge technology available today for the modern surveyor.

Now you might be thinking, “why would a drone that flies underground need to do high altitude testing?” And that’s a great question! Not all mines are created equal, and many of our customers in South America operate their mines at extremely high altitude. We need to make sure our platforms have the proper thrust models to operate safely in high altitude mines around the world.

Shoutout to Trevor and Jake for finding such an amazing location for Nexys to let it rip and explore. Where should we send them next??
