The Supreme Court has refused to hear Donald Trump's appeal of the $5 million verdict that found he sexually abused author E. Jean Carroll. Carroll sued Trump in 2022 for defamation and battery in a civil case, alleging that the President had sexually assaulted her in the spring of 1996 in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City.  She also claimed he defamed her by asserting she had fabricated the story to boost sales of her book. The case went to trial in New York, where a jury found Trump liable for the charges, awarding Carroll $5 million in damages.
