Delta Zeta was founded on October 24, 1902 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The purpose of DZ is to unite members in the bonds of sincere and lasting friendship through the pursuit of knowledge and the social culture of its members. Delta Zeta has a national commitment to support Hearing and Speech around the world.

The Gamma Beta chapter of Delta Zeta was founded at UConn in 1943, and reestablished in 2017. They are one of 9 chapters in UConn's Panhellenic Council (UCPC). They value Friendship, Generosity, Belonging, Curiosity, Community, and Empowerment.
