“During my childhood, my family and I moved to Oaxaca, Mexico following the deportation of my father. Once I concluded my secondary education at Oaxaca, I decided to move by myself to California and pursue higher education. The beginning of my journey was not easy because I had to learn in a very short amount of time how to balance a full-time job and the coursework from my community college. However, with perseverance and discipline I managed to grow academically and professionally, which helped me to be admitted into my dream university: UC San Diego.

While at UC San Diego, I also faced several challenges, such as commuting from the border to campus, adapting from a community college to a renowned four-year university, and helping my family to move with me; however, with resilience and dedication I have also overcame these challenges.

My favorite memory at UC San Diego was watching my mother walk into campus after being out of the United States for more than fifteen years. She came to join the custodial team at the Price Center. Certainly, UC San Diego has changed my and my family's lives forever and for the better.

As of right now, I am seeking employment here at UC San Diego because I will help my sister with her own higher-education journey. After she transfers to a UC campus, I will pursue graduate education and expand my knowledge and skills in order for me to join a public service entity and share with others my own experience and knowledge.”
