Waddle be his name?

We are so excited for the arrival of our Little Blue Penguins — the newest and cutest residents at birchaquarium at Scripps. But there’s one thing missing … a name! This is where YOU come in — we need your help naming one of our penguins!

This is the first time Birch Aquarium is naming any of its animals! We hope this naming opportunity instills a deeper connection with you to these charismatic creatures and inspires you to learn how to aid in conservation efforts to protect our ocean planet.

So … how do you suggest a name?!

🐧 Submit a name online and why it’s the perfect fit

🐧 Submissions close May 8 at 5 p.m. (PT)

This pint-sized penguin needs a name as unique as its species. We encourage you to think of names that are relevant to local ties — like San Diego, UCSanDiego or scripps_ocean, unique aspects of penguins, the environment they live in, or even conservation efforts surrounding their habitats!

After submissions close on May 8 at 5 p.m. (PT), birchaquarium will select 4 potential names from the submissions and announce them on social media — you’ll have the chance to cast your vote for the final name!
