Remember when a Pacific footballfish washed up near Encinitas last December? Starting Friday, March 25, you can get a glimpse of this rare deep-sea specimen for a limited time in Oddities: Hidden Heroes of the Scripps Collections at birchaquarium at Scripps!

So much is still unknown about the deep-sea and the creatures that call it home — it’s not everyday that a deep-sea creature washes ashore, so when one does it’s a BIG deal. This particular footballfish is one of only 31 known specimens collected worldwide!

This unique display runs from March 25 to April 24, 2022 and is included with admission to the aquarium. Please note, advanced reservations are required for all guests, including members. Walk-up sales are not available.
