In the fragile months following Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans was struggling to rebuild.
Helen Hill and her husband, Dr. Paul Gailiunas, chose to return to the city they loved despite the challenges and a rise in violent activity. Helen, an acclaimed filmmaker and mother of a young son, believed deeply in helping New Orleans recover.
Just months after moving back, she was murdered inside her home.
Her death became one of the most shocking crimes of the post-Katrina era, sparking outrage across the city and raising questions that remain unanswered nearly two decades later.
WWL investigative reporter Katie Moore has spent years working with Helen's family, reviewing records, and seeking access to the full police file to uncover what happened and whether this cold case can still be solved.
