Amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual periods, and there are two types:

1. Primary amenorrhea—This is when someone does not get the first period by age 15.

2. Secondary amenorrhea—If you already menstruate and do not get your period for three months or more.

Amenorrhea can have a variety of typical causes, including pregnancy, lactation, and menopause. Medications or medical disorders can also cause amenorrhea.

If you suspect amenorrhea, discuss your symptoms with your doctor. 

Amenorrhea could be a symptom of a hidden medical condition. 

Untreated, it can potentially result in additional issues like osteoporosis and low bone density. 

Your ob-gyn can assist in determining the reason of your amenorrhea and can also go over possible treatments.
