## Caption

Period poverty is the lack of access to menstrual products, education, and hygiene resources needed when having a period.

It describes the struggle many low-income women and girls face while trying to afford menstrual products. 

There is an increased economic vulnerability faced by anyone with periods due the financial burden posed by menstrual supplies. 

This affects millions worldwide, and although more common in developing countries; it also affects individuals in wealthy, industrialized countries. 

Some of the medical supplies include not only menstrual pads and tampons, but also related costs such as pain medication and underwear. 

Access to menstrual products is a right, and feeling clean, confident, and capable during one’s period is a necessity. 

We should all strive to work towards menstrual equity. It is important to ensure continued access to facilities, products and information needed to protect the dignity, health and well-being of anyone with menstrual periods.
