Have you ever wondered if men can get infected with HPV? The answer is yes!

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the United States.

Among 15- to 59-year-olds, an estimated 40% of people will have HPV.

Although there are many different types of HPV; most do not cause any health problems.

If you are active, you can get HPV even if you have had only one partner. Symptoms can also appear years after which makes it hard to know when you first got it.

Most men who get HPV never have symptoms. The infection usually goes away by itself.

If HPV does not go away, it can cause genital warts or certain kinds of cancer ( NOTE: HPV by itself isn’t cancer but it can cause changes in the body that lead to cancer).

There is currently no approved test for HPV in men, but some healthcare providers offer an*l Pap tests to men who may be at greater risk for an*l cancer.

If you have symptoms and have concerns about cancer, it is important to see a healthcare provider.

The two steps you can take to lower your chances of getting HPV and diseases from HPV are

1: Getting vaccinated.

2: Using protection - can lower your risk of getting STIs including HPV. (However, since HPV can infect areas the c*nd*m does not cover, they may not offer full protection against getting HPV.
