V@ginal yeast infections are also called vulvovaginal candidiasis or v@ginal candidiasis are very common, happening to over 1 million women in the United States each year.

A v@ginal yeast infection is caused by a specific type of yeast called candida.

It’s not always harmful while this yeast is balanced with the ecosystem of your body.

When that balance is disrupted, the yeast rapidly grows and you can get a yeast infection.

These symptoms can include an itchy sensation in the v@gina and vulva, a thick, white vaginal discharge,
redness and swelling and also having a burning feeling when you urinate.

A yeast infection is diagnosed by your healthcare provider. Following a diagnosis, you will be started on antifungal medication.

Sometimes you can treat a vaginal yeast infection with over-the-counter medicines. However, you may want to avoid this if you aren’t completely sure that it’s actually a yeast infection.

You often can prevent vaginal yeast infections by making a few lifestyle changes.

If you have frequent yeast infections, talk to your healthcare provider as there are some conditions/factors that can put you at higher risk of having recurrent infections.
