You’ve probably seen it in the news that Justin Bieber was recently diagnosed with a condition called Ramsay hunt syndrome that has resulted in him canceling his upcoming shows.

There have been lots of videos talking about this condition and his diagnosis also with a lot of misinformation online; so this video is just a quick summary on what Ramsay hunt syndrome is.

Ramsey hunt syndrome is a major complication of herpes zoster or shingles which is a reactivation of the varicella zoster virus which is responsible for chickenpox. 

If you’ve had chickenpox in the past you are at risk of developing shingles or herpes zoster in the future due to a potential reactivation of the virus.

Prompt treatment of Ramsay Hunt syndrome can ease pain and decrease the risk of long-term complications.

There are also lifestyle remedies that can help reduce the discomfort associated with this condition.

Regarding prevention, Children are now routinely vaccinated against chickenpox, which greatly reduces the chances of becoming infected with the chickenpox virus. 

Also, a shingles vaccine for people age 50 or older also is recommended.
